قتلت حرائق غابات شخصا ودمرت مئة منزل على الأقل قرب سيدني ثاني اكبر المدن في استراليا الأمر الذي دفع آلاف السكان إلى ترك منازلهم وحذرت السلطات يوم الجمعة من ان الحرائق قد تدمر المزيد من المنازل مع خروجها عن نطاق السيطرة.
وقالت إدارة مكافحة الحرائق إن مئة حريق لاتزال مستعرة -تؤججها درجات الحرارة المرتفعة عن مستوياتها الموسمية والرياح القوية- في ولاية نيو ساوث ويلز بشرق البلاد.
وقال متحدث باسم الإدارة إن رجلا عمره 63 عاما مات بأزمة قلبية يوم الخميس عندما كان يحاول منع امتداد حريق إلى منزله في منطقة ساحلية قريبة من سيدني.
وقضى آلاف الاشخاص ليلهم في مراكز للإيواء على المشارف الغربية للمدينة وكذلك إلى الشمال والجنوب منها.
وقال مايك جالاتشر وزير خدمات الطواريء في ولاية نيو ساوث ويلز إن فقدان مئة منزل فقط قد يعتبر من "حسن الحظ" بالنظر إلى حجم الخطر الذي تمثله الحرائق.
وابلغ جالاتشر هيئة الاذاعة الاسترالية (ايه.بي.سي) "اعتقد بالنظر إلى ما رأيته الليلة الماضية ..أن ما هو محتمل أكبر كثيرا بالتأكيد."

He spent thousands of people to inspire in evacuation centers on the western outskirts of the city , as well as to the north and south of them.
And said Mike Jalatcher , emergency services minister in the state of New South Wales The loss of a hundred home just might be considered " good luck " Given the size of the danger posed by fires.
The Jalatcher told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (BAA . B . C ) "I think in view of what I saw last night .. what is a much greater potential for sure. "
